WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE PANSEXUAL? DISCOVER IT
We always talk about the LGBT world, since it’s important to know about it to respect it at all times. We recently talked about what a non-binary person was, today we want to talk about pansexuality, what differences does it have with bisexuality? Are you pansexual?
What is to be pansexual?
This concept has always existed, but it was only when popular artists like Miley Cyrus or Bella Thorne described themselves as pansexual, that it became fashionable again.
In the word pansexual, we find the prefix “pan-” which refers to everything, and the word sexuality. So what does it mean? It refers to people who are attracted by quality, not so much by gender or sex. Therefore, it refers to a person who may be attracted to different sexes and genders.
This concept is confused with many others, let’s clear up the doubts!
What is the difference between bi and pansexual
What is bisexuality? It refers to people who are attracted to men and women. Pansexuality has emerged to include not just men and women, but everyone else, different gender or sexuality.
Pansexuality is not limited to being able to be attracted to a person of the same sex, a person of different sex, or both, but also people who feel drawn, for example, by transgender or intersex people.
Although the differences are clear, today the debate continues as to whether they are two different concepts, since many people believe that bisexuality also includes the attraction to intersex and transgender people.
What is the difference between pansexual and omnisexual?
Omnisexuality refers to people who are attracted to other people regardless of gender. Even so, they do know the gender of the other person. On the contrary, in pansexuality, people are attracted to a person regardless of gender and also, unlike omnisexuality, they don’t notice the gender of the other person.
In conclusion, omnisexual people are attracted to people of all gender types and are aware of the type of gender that the other person is. While a pansexual person, in addition to being attracted to people of all genders, they aren’t aware of the other person’s gender.
How to know if you are pansexual
First of all, don’t do internet tests, they are silly! You will only know your sexual orientation by yourself!
Therefore, to know if you are pansexual, you need a lot of self-reflection. We recommend you organize your thoughts and feelings, write a journal, and answer the following questions:
- Have I ever been attracted to someone without first knowing the gender or pronouns?
- What genres have I been drawn to?
- When I think of my ideal partner, do I also think of what gender it has to be? Is it important to me?
- How do I feel if I think I am pansexual?
Remember that even if you are pansexual you can have other identities, for example, you could be queer pansexual or non-binary pansexual. Also, labels are just that, labels.
Over time you will discover yourself, maybe now you feel that you are pansexual and from now on, you feel that you are homosexual. Considering that new words will always emerge to identify sexuality, you have a 99% chance that you will go overboard!
What is the difference between pansexual and panromantic?
As the name says, panromantic, it’s a romantic orientation, not a sexual one. In this way, a panromantic person can be romantically attracted to all gender identities. However, this only happens when a person has a different sexual orientation than his romantic orientation.
As we have already discussed, the term pansexual can serve both those who are panromantic and those who are not, because it’s the same, they are attracted to all genders and identities.
The popularity of pansexuality
As we have already mentioned, this term already existed before, but currently, thanks to some celebrities, it has become more known. For example, Cyrus is the one that has made this concept more popular.
Thanks to this popularity, not only is it a new way of identifying ourselves, but it also helps to increase the acceptance of gender and sexual diversity.
