WHY SHOULD YOU CHOOSE OUR SLOW-BURNING PAPERS?

Slow-Burning Papers from Smoking® Paper: slow-burning, more pleasure!

Do you remember that we got the CDP certificate of environmental sustainability? In this post, we want to explain in more detail some important characteristics of our sustainable products: our rolling papers are slow-burning and natural! We want to give you the best and the most sustainable examples, and explain the burning of rolling papers!

What is cigarette paper?

As you already know, rolling paper is the one used to roll cigarettes and can be made of rice straw, flax, hemp papers, cotton fibers, wood, among others. In addition, it can also have different sizes and different characteristics.

In this way, it can be defined as a thin sheet of paper that contains a gummed strip to be able to close the cigarette once rolled.

And what do you think?

  • The thinner the paper, the lower the weight?
  • The more intense the smoke, the more flavor?
  • Slower combustion, maximum use?

The burning of cigarette paper

Combustion is any reaction that has been created between combustible material and the oxidizer, activated by energy and creating, at the same time, heat, specifically creating an exothermic reaction.

🔥The combustion of cigarette paper contains a natural part and another that can be altered by combustion additives, with retarding effects, which would be slow combustion, or accelerating effects, which would be free combustion.

The natural porosity of paper

The natural porosity of the paper is one of the most important characteristics that manages the natural combustion of the paper. As a general rule: the more porous a paper is, the faster it will consume. This is because there is more air ventilation.

Calcium carbonate

The calcium carbonate content (filler) is another important characteristic that determines the combustion of the paper. Additives can function as retardants or accelerators.

Accelerators

Accelerators are 99% tripotassium from citric acid and trisodium salts. These increase the burning rate of both rolling paper and cigarettes. In addition, they also modify the characteristics of the burn, for example, the appearance of the ash.

Retardants

On the contrary, fire retardants, composed of ammonium salts of phosphoric acid, slow down combustion, creating slow combustion.

Therefore, the accelerators create a higher porosity type of paper, with accelerant combustion additives. With these papers, you have a smoking experience very similar to that of the conventional thick paper cigarette, which as you may already know burn faster than cigars made with rolling paper.

On the other hand, with slow combustion, natural combustion is created, without any additives and with low porosity!

The gummed

One of the strips of the cigarette paper is always gummed so that it can be closed obtaining the typical cylinder. Currently, there are two types of stickers: PVA (polyvinyl acetate) and Gum Arabic.

PVA

It’s known as a vinyl adhesive. It’s a polymer that is obtained through the polymerization of vinyl acetate and has multiple uses: it’s used for the base of chewing gum, and to preserve fungi and cheese from moisture.

Gum Arabic

This natural gum is produced from a tree in Pakistan called Acacia Senegalese. It’s a substance produced by acacias to close wounds and cracks in a gumming or healing process, preventing the entry of germs.

Therefore, it comes from a polysaccharide of natural origin. Rolling papers that have this type of rubber are 100% natural since it’s 100% natural rubber without colorants.

Smoking Papers

Remember that Smoking® Paper’s cigarette papers are natural, being, most of them, slow-burning papers, with 100% Gum arabic natural rubber. A good example of slow combustion is the Thinnest rolling papers. Let’s see some examples.

Blue

Blue is everyone’s favorite! It’s an ultra-thin, slow-burning paper with 100% natural vegetable gum, without additives or colorants.

Brown

This is even more environmentally friendly as it’s unbleached. It’s an ultra-thin paper with a high level of transparency, with a 100% natural and slow-burning vegetable gum, without additives or colorants!
