We’ve been rocking iOS 17 since it dropped in beta back in June. Now that we’ve given all the cool new stuff on the iPhone 15 Pro Max a spin, it’s time to look forward. Word on the street is that the iOS 18 beta might hit the scene early next June at WWDC 2024, and it’s supposed to play nice with all the latest iPhone models.
As for what it’s packing, who knows? But we’ve got a wishlist of major new features and designs we’re hoping to score in iOS 18.
Apple Music is a big player in the subscription service game, giving Spotify a run for its money. But here’s the thing – despite its popularity and the seamless Apple ecosystem, there’s still no Handoff support.
Unlike Spotify, which has had Spotify Connect for ages, letting you control any device’s queue from another, Apple Music only lets you hand off the music queue between an iPhone and a HomePod. That’s a bummer because we want to seamlessly switch between Macs, iPads, and different iPhones. Fingers crossed for the software update in iOS 18 to make it happen.
iOS 14 brought us the App Library on iPhones, a neat way to tidy up our home screens. It groups apps in folders at the end, but here’s the catch – it decides everything for you. The App Library automatically organizes apps according to their functions, and there’s no option to customize the names, contents, or locations of these folders. iOS 18, do us a solid, and let us take the wheel.
We’d love the freedom to manually organize and adjust the App Library according to our preferences.
Let’s be honest – iOS notifications could use a significant upgrade. While Focus modes and the Notification Summary try to help, they’re still not cutting it. The inability to change the default tones for third-party apps is a major annoyance, resulting in a cacophony of indistinguishable sounds. Dealing with a barrage of notifications can be overwhelming, and it’s about time Apple takes a closer look at improving this aspect, especially with the introduction of the Dynamic Island feature on recent iPhone models.
The Action button on the iPhone 15 Pro Max feels a bit limited, offering just one action. iOS 18 could jazz it up by introducing more combos for different actions, like double-clicking or holding down.
AirPods receive updates, but there’s still no dedicated Update button in the Settings app. iOS 18 should make it convenient for enthusiasts to force updates, providing a more user-friendly experience.
Despite hardware upgrades, the Camera app lacks a proper manual mode for professionals. iOS 18 should focus on improving the software to complement the top-notch camera hardware, offering better control and options for users who want to take their photography skills to the next level.
Currently, iPhones can’t be revived wirelessly by another iPhone or iPad. iOS 18 ought to bring in this functionality, offering a substitute for the traditional wired recovery method through macOS 15. This would be especially handy for users without access to a computer.
The Control Center has remained unchanged for an extended period. It’s high time iOS 18 unlocks customization options, empowering users to modify and personalize it based on their preferences. The Control Center needs to align with the customizable features present in other areas of the iOS interface.
What do you think? Will the new iOS be making additions to security and fixing bugs? Let’s hope so!
