78th Golden Globe Awards
The 78th edition of the 2021 Golden Globes were held on February 28 and again, it was a great event that was affected by the pandemic since, as we mentioned in our last post about the Oscars, This situation has caused a multitude of delays in the premieres and for this reason, it has also been an atypical awards ceremony.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Taraji P. Henson, were in charge of unveiling the nominations for the awards on February 3, 2021 and as expected, many predictions have come true. Next, we will comment on some of the most important details of the gala and above all, we will mention who have been the main winners of the 78th edition of the Golden Globes.
Details and characteristics of the gala
The Golden Globes are awards granted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and through these, the great work done in the world of film and television is recognized worldwide.
For the fourth time, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were in charge of presenting the great gala of the Golden Globes although it is and for the first time, it was an event presenting telematically. Amy Poehler was presenting the gala from Los Angeles and Tina Fey did it from New York, despite the great distance that separated both presenters, thanks to the scenery it seemed that they were in the same place. In the same way, all the nominated guests received their awards from their homes as was done at the Emmys celebration last September. Despite this, the vast majority did not hesitate to put on their best suits and enjoy the new normal from their living room.
Technical failures were also present throughout the gala and made the 2021 Golden Globes event go down in the history of all the galas of these awards.
Winners of the 2021 Golden Globes
As expected, there were great awards that surprised many and other winners, which was what the critics and everyone expected. Next, we are going to comment on all the films and series that became the main protagonists of the night.
Nomadland became one of the great protagonists of the night as it won the award for Best Film – Drama. Thanks to this award, the filmmaker Chloe Zhao became the second woman to triumph in the category of Best Direction after the award that Barbra Streisand won in 1984.
Borat 2 won the award for Best Musical or Comedy and of this same film, Sacha Baron Cohen won the award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Rosamund Pike won the Best Actress award in this same genre for I Care a Lot.
Although Nomadland got the Best Picture award, it is important to note that the award for Best Screenplay went to Aaron Sorkin for his work in The Trial of the Chicago 7.
The Crown was a complete triumph as it won the award for Best Dramatic Series from Television and Emma Corrin was the winner of the Best Actress in a Dramatic Series award for her work on the series. In addition, Gillian Anderson also won the Best Television Supporting Actress award for The Crown.
In the world of series, The Queen’s Gambit was a sure bet and that is that this series won the award for Best Television Limited Series and Anya Taylor-Joy won the well-deserved award for Best Actress in a Miniseries for her spectacular performance in the series.
The best moments of the 2021 Golden Globes
Although the 2021 Golden Globes gala was marked by the pandemic and all its complications, it is important to note that thanks to this, we were able to enjoy great unusual moments more than ever before we could have seen.
If before we mentioned that all the nominees wore their best suits, it is important to mention that not all did and is that Jodie Foster, thanked her award as best supporting actress for The Mauritanian in pajamas and sitting on the sofa accompanied by his wife and his dog. Jason Sudeikis wanted to remember the months of confinement where the tracksuit became our best friend, the actor won the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his work in Ted Lasso and collected his award in a sweatshirt.
As we mentioned, technical problems were part of this telematics gala and John Boyega was undoubtedly the main protagonist of these technological failures. When he was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his work in Judas and the Black Messiah, the actor was preparing to make his speech but the connection prevented him from doing so. His speech began to cut and you could hear in the background: Do you hear me, do you hear me now?
Another of the great gala moments of the 2021 Golden Globes occurred when David Fisher chose to drink a shot of vodka or tequila after realizing that he had just lost the award for Best Screenplay.
Finally, we want to comment that this type of event has allowed us to meet actors and celebrities in a much more personal context. All the spectators could see how the artists shared this great moment and all their nerves with their families, children and even dogs.
