The most recurring theme in Lamar’s albums is that of a young and innocent man trying to express himself while surrounded by violence, which serves as inspiration about the rap industry’s glorification of violence, and Kendrick often stood up to adopt an image that didn’t represent him.
Commissioning Kendrick Lamar to produce, compose and select songs -and artists- for the Black Panther film score was a tremendous success! An album that contains the top brass of today’s best Hip Hop. In “King’s Dead”, for example, you can find Jay Rock, Future, and James Blake alongside Lamar.
Kendrick Lamar is much more than a narrator of neighborhood stories. In fact, in this wonderful song that you can find in his first official album, he presents himself as a different narrator who has been a witness or even a protagonist of the violence of the streets. Amazing!
That Kendrick Lamar is the first rapper to receive the Pulitzer Prize is no-nonsense and serves as an example of the lyrics and the story he tells in this song.

A song that was originally going to include Lady Gaga’s feature, but in the end due to deadlines it couldn’t be. Even so, it’s still a great song and its lyrics are wonderful!
