How long does marijuana stay in your body?

It turns out that there is no single answer as to how long it takes for marijuana to leave your system. That’s because detection depends on several factors, including the type of test, frequency of use and the last cannabis intake.

When determining how long weed will stay in your system, health professionals say it all comes down to frequency and quantity. Thus, the amount you consume and frequency will influence how long cannabis stays in your system, but it can also depend on an individual’s metabolism.

When you smoke, vaporize or otherwise ingest weed, THC levels are broken down into various byproducts that are stored in various parts of the body, including body fat, the brain, and the heart.

Over time, the byproducts stored in the body are released back into the bloodstream, where they are then excreted in the urine; but chronic daily smokers may have a buildup of THC faster than the elimination time.

Use can generally be divided into three categories:

  • Infrequent users (less than 2 times per week).
  • Habitual users (several times per week)
  • Chronic users (daily)

Cannabis drug tests measure the presence of THC, by-products in body fluids or hair, but the time after use that a test can detect depends on the specific type of analysis.

1. Urine test

Urine testing is the most common drug testing method! THC by-products can be detected in the urine for the following time periods:

  • Infrequent users: one to 3 days
  • Regular users: 7 to 21 days
  • Chronic users: 30 days or more.

2. Blood tests

The THC content in the blood peaks quickly in the first few minutes of smoking marijuana and then decreases within an hour. But if you consume it in edible form, then this substance will peak around 3 hours after ingestion.

Blood tests generally detect marijuana for relatively short periods of 1 to 2 days [after last use]. However, studies show that the blood of some frequent cannabis users will test positive even after 7 days of abstinence.

3. Saliva testing

Saliva testing is common in the workplace and uses a swab inserted between the lower cheek and gum.

Saliva tests can detect THC up to 24 hours after the last use in infrequent cannabis users, and up to 30 hours in regular and chronic users.

4. Hair

Hair follicle testing has the longest detection window after the last use. Hair follicle tests can detect marijuana up to 90 days after the last use for most users.

How to eliminate marijuana from your body

Experts agree that the only way to get marijuana out of your system is to stop using it. And, if you’re a chronic smoker, that’s likely to take time!

There are products and many anecdotal stories about what will work, but the only way to really clear your system is to stop using it.

There are a variety of products on the market that claim they can speed up the marijuana “detox” process, but these claims are unproven, and the products can cause dangerous side effects.

Some detoxification methods are advertised but can be harmful!

High amounts of B vitamins: a report found that some patients who took large doses (in some cases, about 3,000 mg daily for one to 2 days, more than 187 times the recommended daily amount) of niacin, or vitamin B3, in hopes of passing urine tests suffered liver damage and other symptoms. The recommended daily amount of niacin for adults is 16 mg for men and 14 mg for women.

Large amounts of water: Drinking too much water in a short time can lead to a serious condition. in a short time can lead to a serious condition called water intoxication. It’s best to drink a healthy amount per day.

Fasting: Skipping meals can cause side effects such as low blood sugar and fatigue. In addition, a 2014 animal study found that fasting raised the amount of THC in the blood of rats that had been previously treated with the compound. This is because, just like when you exercise, fasting can cause THC to be released from fat stores.

If you hope to undergo a true marijuana detox, the most important thing you’ll need is patience. Drinking water, eating healthy and “sweating” aren’t sure-fire ways to flush this drug from your body.

However, it won’t hurt to stay hydrated and eat a healthy diet with plenty of fiber. Fiber can be helpful because 65% of cannabis leaves the body through bowel movements and getting enough fiber can help fight constipation. Also, try to get enough sleep every night to maintain your metabolism.

If you use marijuana and have to pass a drug test, it’s best to stop using immediately and give your body enough time to detox!
