The works on display are categorized as history of narrative art, film art and digital art, and range from paintings by Degas, Renoir, and Norman Rockwell. To digital art, comic book art and movie props such as the iconic Millennium Falcon from Episode IV: A New Hope.
Lucas Museum of Narrative Art has state-of-the-art movie theaters where both individual films and film series are screened daily. Student films will also be featured.
To enhance the film experience, the museum offers lectures, film study workshops, and related lectures and discussions prior to screenings.
Other museum facilities include a restaurant, a 4,200-square-foot library, event spaces, a museum store, digital classrooms, and lecture halls.
Surrounded by more than 100 elementary and high schools and located near Lucas’ alma mater, USC, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will place a high priority on education.
Whether museum visitors, students, teachers, or budding artists, all are invited to learn how great stories are created and why they matter. The museum will offer public lectures and classes for all ages, hands-on workshops, after-school programs and camps, and a variety of other educational opportunities.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will be built on the site of the current Lots 2 and 3 of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
The museum’s location on Vermont Avenue, south of Exposition Boulevard, is a short walk from the Expo/Vermont station on the Metro Expo Line.
In June 2016, South Los Angeles was designated a Promise Zone, which means greater access to federal grants and other resources.
The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a gift from the Lucas family to the City of Los Angeles. The museum construction, collection, and endowment of the Museum are funded entirely by filmmaker George Lucas and his family.
The museum is estimated to create more than 1,500 jobs during construction and more than 350 permanent jobs when it opens in 2025.
