Flat screens are finally making their way into the top models of cell phones and becoming the preferred choice in the mobile phone industry. Although we are still a few months away from the update of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, it is already known that the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is the successor to the S23 Ultra and will be a significant step for the Korean giant in the high-end mobile phone market.
Thanks to leaks, yet to be confirmed by the company itself, some of the features and specifications of the three members of the Samsung family have already been revealed.
Available Models of the Samsung Galaxy S24
As is tradition, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will be launched with three available models. The eldest will be the Ultra, and Samsung will retain that name for its flagship products. Two other high-end offerings will join it, with the same core but slightly reduced specifications. These are:
- Samsung Galaxy S24
- Samsung Galaxy S24
- Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
- Features of the Galaxy S24
Features of the Galaxy S24
According to some leaks, the Asian company will resume its tradition of launching the Galaxy S series with two processor variants. Therefore, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will operate with either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400, depending on the market. In Europe, the phone will have a different chip to maintain the current price range.
However, this would be a novelty, as the Galaxy S23 Ultra was launched in the old continent with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and there were previous complaints about the underperformance of the Exynos 2200 powering the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
In terms of photographic capabilities, the leaker suggests that Samsung’s flagship will come with a new 50MP 3x zoom telephoto lens. If this speculation is confirmed, it would be a significant leap, considering that the latest Galaxy Ultra has a 10MP lens in this component. Elsewhere, the main camera is expected to remain at 200MP, combined with a 12MP wide-angle camera.
The manufacturer will also release a 10MP periscope lens with 10x optical zoom, and it is expected to use the same 12MP front-facing camera for selfies as the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
WHAT IS THE NOTHING PHONE? WILL IT COMPETE WITH APPLE?
The overall appearance of all phones is expected to remain relatively consistent. After all, in 2023, Samsung has aligned its design language across various phone models, including lower-end ones like the Galaxy A14. It seems unlikely that there will be a revolutionary new design in store for the next year, a sentiment reflected in early renders.
Images of both the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Ultra have been seen, and, unsurprisingly, they resemble what one would anticipate. The former features squared edges reminiscent of recent iPhones, while the latter seems to maintain rounded edges while introducing a significant change.
Based on both leaked images and circulating rumors, it appears that Samsung is moving away from its curved screens. Despite years of gradually reducing the curvature on its flagship phablets and providing flat panels for non-Ultra devices, the company seems determined to apply the same treatment to the Galaxy S24. Although leaker Ice Universe mentioned that it will maintain curved sides, the screen itself is rumored to be entirely flat.
The renders of the S24 Ultra support this notion, presenting a familiar design that aligns with the Pixel 8 Pro in abandoning curved edges along the sides of the panel. With this shift, it seems that some of Android’s major players have bid farewell to curved phones for good. While Motorola continues to incorporate them into some of its devices, the trend toward flat edges appears to be making a comeback and is likely here to stay.

Let’s delve into the color options! Aligned with the titanium frame, Samsung is considering the introduction of four new matching colors: Titanium Black, Titanium Gray, Titanium Violet, and Titanium Yellow. All four colors have been leaked in some early renders, providing a glimpse of what you would anticipate from these shades. The gray variant, in particular, resembles Apple’s standard hue for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the yellow offers a refreshing change in the color palette.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 and galaxy S24 Plus are sticking to Samsung’s typical naming convention: Onyx Black, Marble Grey, Cobalt Violet, and Amber Yellow. Essentially, it’s the same set of four colors as the Ultra, although the renders may appear slightly less dynamic without that titanium frame.
Galaxy S24+: review and more
The Galaxy S24 will be a premium smartphone and will be positioned in the top-of-the-line category. It will be manufactured in aluminum and glass, using this metal for its lightweight, strength, and high thermal conductivity, allowing it to act as a passive cooling system. On the back, there will be a layer of Gorilla Glass, and on the front, another layer will protect the screen.
Galaxy S24 Ultra
Some Korean specialized media outlets revealed that Samsung expects sales of the new Galaxy S24 to reach 35 million units, 10% more than the 31 million units shipped by the Galaxy S23.
What Improvements Does the New Samsung S24 Line Offer?
Firstly, the screens of the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S24 Ultra will feature LTPO technology and M3 panels, with a maximum brightness of 2,500 nits in all three cases.
LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) is a new type of OLED panel that offers greater energy efficiency than traditional panels seen in models from other manufacturers. In addition, there is the new M13 technology, a type of panel that provides a wider color gamut and better contrast than traditional OLED.
Moreover, 2500 nits is the maximum brightness of the Galaxy S24 screen. It is significantly brighter than the Galaxy S23, which reaches 1750 nits, indicating that the Galaxy S24 screen will be clearer in direct sunlight, which is always a plus.

What Is the Release Date and Price of the New Galaxy S24 Ultra?
Earlier last year, Samsung maintained pricing and release dates relatively consistent with 2022. The Galaxy S23 series followed the same February launch timeline and had staggered prices ($800 for the S23, $1,000 for the S23+, and $1,200 for the S23 Ultra) similar to the S22 series.
It remains uncertain whether the Galaxy S24 will follow a similar pattern, but that seems to be the best estimate. However, considering inflation’s impact on the phone industry, a slight price increase for any of the company’s models is conceivable. With the potential absence of the S24+, a higher price for the base S24 is also a possibility.
Most rumors surrounding the Galaxy S24’s launch window suggest an early release, possibly in mid-January. The most explicit information so far comes from a report citing a Samsung official, indicating that the Galaxy S24 series is scheduled for an announcement on January 17th. Similar to the previous year’s device, this falls on a Wednesday, presumably paving the way for the device to hit store shelves a week or two later!
