As a consequence of the importance of the environment for us, in this post, we want to talk about what the FSC® certificate is and how it guarantees that Smoking contributes to protecting the most important forest resources in the world.

FSC or Forest Stewardship Council® certification

The FSC® Certificate is a forest certification system. This is promoted and awarded by the Forest Stewardship Council, a global non-profit organization that aims to promote responsible forest management throughout the world.

The Forest Stewardship Council was created in California, specifically in 1990, and arose from the concern on the part of many companies and consumers to create much more sustainable forestry processes.

As mentioned on the FSC website, their mission is to “promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests”, and to achieve this, they use their famous tree seal as their main tool.

Therefore, companies that offer products based on sustainable consumption of wood, paper, or other derivatives, can obtain FSC certification for their products.

What does the FSC seal endorse?

Through the FSC seal, the objective is to guarantee that wood and paper products have been produced sustainably and that, therefore, they come from forests and plantations that preserve biodiversity, where the life and economy of workers and local populations are also protected.

In this way, by choosing and consuming Smoking® Paper products that have the FSC seal, you are helping to take care of the forests since thanks to this it’s possible to work on the conservation of biological diversity.

What kinds of FSC certifications and labels are there?

Currently, the FSC labels offer three different types of certificates.

Forest Management Certificate

The first type that we can find is the one known as Certificate of Forest Management. This grants forest managers and owners that their management practices meet the established requirements, that are responsibly managed.

Chain of Custody Certificate

The Chain of Custody Certification is another of the seals that FSC offers. It intends to verify and validate that the material that has been previously identified with the FSC certificate has been separated and controlled throughout the entire supply chain.

Controlled Wood

Finally, we find the certificate called Controlled Wood. It’s reported that FSC certified material can be mixed with materials that have the FSC Mixed label that we’ll mention below.

In addition, as we’ve mentioned before, the FSC® certificate offers different labels to show the most exact information about the materials used to manufacture each product.

FSC 100%

The first label is known as FSC 100% and guarantees that all the materials that have been used to create the final product come from forests in which performance requirements are followed. We could say that this label is the one that contributes the most to FSC’s main objective.

FSC recycled

As its name suggests, the FSC Recycled label guarantees that there has been a prior verification that the forest products used are made from 100% recycled materials.

FSC mixed

It informs that the products with this label are produced with a mixture of materials from FSC sites and other types of materials from controlled sources.
