GAME OF THRONES: HOUSE OF THE DRAGON IS AVAILABLE ON HBO

Game of Thrones House of the Dragon is out: why you should watch it!

Ring the bells in King’s Landing and dust off the old Westeros tomes, because it’s time to ingratiate ourselves back into the world of Game of Thrones. HBO’s prequel series, The House of the Dragon, has finally arrived at our screens, bringing us Succession-style battles for the throne, and more Targaryens than you can count! 😉

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire and Blood, a story set almost 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, The House of the Dragon is already drawing fans of the fantasy series back in.

The first episode introduced us to the ailing King Viserys Targaryen, who is forced to choose an heir for his kingdom. Targaryen’s choice? His daughter, Rhaenyra, and her younger brother, Daemon. Guess what? Sides are chosen. A Targaryen civil war ensues. And we’re about to tell you when you can see the rest of the action!

House of the Dragon

There has never been a more exciting time to be a fantasy fan. August began with Netflix’s sumptuous adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, and Labor Day weekend will bring the debut of Amazon’s lavish Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. But this weekend is the weekend of the return of Game of Thrones! The premiere date of HBO’s House of the Dragon is approaching.

House of the Dragon is the first official spin-off of HBO’s smash hit Game of Thrones. The new series is set some 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The Targaryens’ reign brought peace and prosperity to Westeros, but the question of who will succeed King Viserys I (Paddy Considine) on the throne threatens to devastate this idyllic era.

Viserys is confident that his beloved wife Aemma Arryn (Sian Brooke) will give birth to a male heir worthy of the Iron Throne, but what if she doesn’t? The crown could pass to the next male Targaryen, Viserys’ brother Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), or Viserys could break convention and name his daughter Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) as heir.

House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood, which gives fans a better insight into the history of the Targaryen family. And if House of the Dragon sticks to the Fire and Blood narrative, things are going to get bloody, fiery, and nasty in no time!

When does House of the Dragon premiere?

The first episode of House of the Dragon premiered on HBO on Sunday 21 August at 21:00 EST. The first season runs for 10 episodes, and premieres weekly, throughout September and October. At the same time and location as the first episode.

You can find House of the Dragon on HBO and HBO Max! Episodes are about an hour long and the finale will air on 23 October. As if there weren’t enough House of the Dragon feuds, the fantasy series will soon compete with Amazon’s The Rings of Power, which premiered on 2 September.
