HOW TO FATTEN UP BUDS BEFORE HARVEST? OUR TIPS

Learn how to fatten up buds before harvest

For many people having a developed marijuana plant means that the work of cultivation is ready, but you should know that this is just the beginning. Because after you have successfully grown it’s time to fatten the buds and have you ever wondered how this is possible?

Today we bring you the complete information on how to fatten the buds, all through the best tips used by experts in this process. So, take pencil and paper, because you’ll find that some of the key factors are irrigation water, nutrient supply, base fertilizer, relative humidity, and more.

In what week can you fatten the buds?

One of the key questions when it comes to fattening marijuana buds is to know in which week this is possible.

The truth is that the buds begin to develop from the first week of flowering. Where you can clearly observe the appearance of the first white hairs that are called pistils.

But if you want an even more specific time, the exact flowering stage is from the fourth week. Period in which they’ll continue to gain weight throughout the second month of that stage.

It’s at this point that we’ll give you the first of the tricks to fatten buds, you can use flowering stimulants from the second week. You can perfectly complement a mineral stimulant with an organic one.

But if you have seen that you have passed the aforementioned period, you are still in time to use a bud buster. This usually comes in powder form, requiring very little dosage.

Attention, because any fattening agent has to be applied from the fourth week of flowering. And it will not be a good idea to exceed the recommended dose, because they are so powerful that they could burn your plants.

When do marijuana buds stop fattening?

As it’s clear, growing marijuana isn’t just like that, it’s essential that you take the necessary measures if you are looking for a harvest of large buds.

But since you already know in which weeks you can start with the work of fattening marijuana buds, it is the perfect time to tell you when they stop fattening.

It’s important to understand that it all depends on each plant and the type of cultivation you have used, but generally speaking, when two months of the flowering stage have passed, your beloved buds will decrease their fattening.

Be careful here, because in autoflowering varieties, the fattening of the bud is faster because of the accelerated life cycle.

And it’s during the last weeks, shortly before you can start harvesting, that you’ll see your buds mature. Keep in mind that they will be increasing their flavor and cannabinoid levels.

TIPS for fattening buds

Now that you know the week when you can start fattening the buds and when this process stops, let’s move on to the most important thing, how to fatten the buds. We ask you to concentrate, because with the following tips the growing process will change completely.

Good lighting

Plants need a good spectrum of light to be able to fatten their buds well, which translates into good lighting.

Here is an observation that you have to take into account, if you choose specific growth bulbs to fatten your buds instead of choosing a mixed type, you will offer the right amount of light for better development.

Another great advantage is that a bulb is not for a single use, so you will have enough light for several crops.

In short, lighting is one of the most important factors for the good growth and development of plants. Considering that the right hours will be between 18 and 20 during the whole life cycle.

Pot size and volume

It’s also key to increase the size of the buds, to consider the space required for good growth and maximum development.

In case you grow outdoors, there is really no problem, because it’s a large area, where your marijuana plants will grow in all its splendor. But the story changes if you do it inside the house.

Let’s start, per m2 you can place between 10 to 12 plants under the same bulb, which is great, being the most suitable pots the 5 to 7 L.

But you have the option to add more plants under the same bulb, how to do it, well for that you’ll have to use smaller pots. So each specimen will be smaller, which consequently will make that the fattening of marijuana buds will also be smaller.

Quality fertilizer

To have fat buds, the fertilizer must also be present, being of quality and providing the necessary nutrients.

If you choose a well aerated substrate, whether it’s soil or coco, the roots will grow more and the bigger the better the buds will fatten.

Therefore, the recommendation here is that you invest in a quality substrate. But you can also make homemade compost:

  • Wood ashes: that’s right, these are very rich in phosphorus and potassium.
  • Banana tea: fruit very rich in potassium, which makes it perfect for your buds. To prepare it you only need 1 banana peel, 2 liters of water and 1 tablespoon of honey, sugar cane or molasses.

Humidity and temperature control

Another important tip is temperature and humidity. If you have your plants indoors, the right temperatures should be between 21° and 23° C, but to reach these temperatures you can help yourself with a thermo-hygrometer.

And if you see that the temperatures start to rise, it would be ideal to include some fans. On the other hand, if you see that the temperature decreases, it would be better to have heaters.

Now we are talking about the same thing, but if you have your crop outside. Here you have to pay attention and be cautious, because it could be a problem, being the key to success that you control the temperature during the hottest months. If temperatures exceed 40°, the roots are the ones that will suffer.

In short, the development of your plants will be affected, being the recommendation if this should happen:

  • Water with low sun.
  • Use white pots.
  • Group plants so that they give shade to each other.
  • Change the location of the plants to areas with more ventilation or where they do not receive direct sunlight.

You also have to be aware of the pH of the water, which has to oscillate between 5.5 and 6, so the plants will absorb the nutrients better.

Removing dry leaves

The last tip on how to fatten buds is related to removing dry leaves and others that aren’t dry, but are on the lower part of the plants.

But they don’t have to be all of them, as you can see the process is delicate, if you get to remove many leaves it harms the plant itself because these leaves are used to feed and get energy.

Another recommendation is to bend the leaves or move the branches to another side, using stakes to let the light pass through.

At this moment you have a complete guide on how to fatten buds, where the best tips correspond to having a good light spectrum, size and volume of the pot, quality fertilizer, temperatures and humidity, and removing dry leaves.

Put them into practice and enjoy a better crop!
