Cannabis sex identification
Feminized Cannabis Seeds
If you are growing using female seeds, you should not worry about the sex of your plants, since there is only a 1% chance that they will produce male plants. Most growers are looking to plant with female seeds because they tend to produce bigger and stronger plants, and they are the ones who have the power of reproduction.
But some others prefer to do it with regular seeds as they think it’s more natural, why? Because feminized seeds come from cannabis plants that have been treated and altered in a way that inhibits the male chromosomes!
And what happens if you plant regular seeds? There is a possibility that they are 50% female and 50% male, therefore, you will have to know how to differentiate the gender of your plants!
When do we have to identify the sex?
Mostly at 4 weeks of planting, the plants begin to flower, and at 6 or 8 weeks, is when they begin to reveal their gender.
The before and after of knowing the sex of your plant will completely change the way you care for them, this is important! Before knowing the gender, first, you will have to place the seeds in a pot and after two weeks, you will have to put them in a pot of “sexing” so that they grow in a healthy way.
Differences between Male and Female Cannabis Plants in Pre-Flower
To be able to identify the sex of the plants well, you will first have to know their differences. Even so, they have some similarities, such as the two of them produce pre-flowers and flowers. However, Males tend to start earlier with this flower appearance!
And where can you find these apparitions? You will have to look at the highest junctions of the stem! You can use a jeweler’s loupe in order to see it better!
Locating the stipula will be the next step, the sex is just behind!
How to identify a Male Cannabis Plant
The male pre-flower is much more rounded than the female. When it grows more, it is appreciated that it’s like a ball!
Also, it’s important to keep in mind that male plants can be taller, narrower, and have fan-shaped leaves! Besides, they tend to have more space between the branches.
How to identify a Female Cannabis Plant
The shape of the female pre-flowers is much more ovate, like a pear. You will see them with a longer and thinner, pointed tip. An important characteristic is that they are sometimes surrounded by white hair!
Why it’s important to Identify
It’s important to identify the gender because once you know which plants are males, you will have to get rid of them as soon as possible! If you want pollination and seeds, keep them. But if not, it’s important to remove them, and it is useless to separate them from the feminine ones since pollen can be transported to them easily!
Remember that male plants interfere with the quality and production of your female plants!
