Fluorescent tattoos have been attracting interest for a few years now. Undoubtedly, the best way to attract attention in a nightclub is to have a glow-in-the-dark tattoo. Body art takes on a new life thanks to fluorescent inks. Especially since tattoos take on a different appearance depending on whether they are seen in the daytime or at night.
What is a fluorescent tattoo?
They are tattoos that use a special type of ink and therefore can be seen and stand out at night. When placed under an ultraviolet light they glow brightly. UV and phosphorescent inks were originally only available in white, but now there are other shades that can complement the design of the artwork.
This shift in color options in tattooing has set new trends among body artists. By having glow-in-the-dark colors available, tattoo artists can create bolder and more eye-catching designs. Glow-in-the-dark tattoos can be a revelation on the wearer’s body.

What you should know about fluorescent tattoos
The main reservations about using glow-in-the-dark inks are related to the allergic effect on human skin. Traditional inks are composed of a pigment (vegetable or industrial) mixed with hypoallergenic materials. An ink may contain calcium, aluminum and sulfates, among other chemical compounds. These elements can be rejected by the body.
Therefore, any type of tattoo can produce an allergic reaction such as itching or irritation. Glowing tattoo inks come in two varieties: UV and Phosphorescent. The former only glows when exposed to ultraviolet light, while the latter glows at night on its own. However, some experts have reservations about the use of phosphor on the skin.
These inks can be mixed with traditional inks or applied directly. It all depends on the effect expected by the artist and the work he/she wishes to execute on the skin. The ink applied directly will have a higher brightness, while mixed will shine with less intensity. Finally, it is worth mentioning that these inks last between 12 and 18 months on the skin.
